Studio Ghibli has made some of the best animated films every made. For the most part, the Miyazaki films are the ones that get the most attention, but that doesn't mean that his films are the only great films from this studio. Here, I have made a list of some of the underrated films that have been released, some being movies that you have probably haven't heard or seen or that have just gone unnoticed. Everything that Studio Ghibli has made has been good to great and these are just a few more that you can add to that list.

Whisper of the Heart

This is one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films ever released and is the one that I think goes most unnoticed. It follow a girl trying to figure out what her future holds, she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. But when she gets inspired to write a story from a cat statue from a antique shop, she finally realized what she has been wanting to do all this time. At the same time developing a very kid friendly relationship with a boy who happens to share the same interest in books with her. Its a very nice tale that can get you inspired to do something you really enjoy, especially in the creative field.

Only Yesterday

To an extent this is one of the more popular non fantastical film that tells a story of a woman retelling her childhood events that prevent her from moving forward in life. It is the most grounded and realistic film but really takes advantage at the fact that of the animation at the right moments. The film is being re-released with a English dub for the first time on Blu-Ray in January of 2016, check it out when it is released as this is one of the most critically acclaimed Ghibli films.

Ocean Waves

This was a made for television animated film created by Studio Ghibli in the 90s. Normally that would mean something of lesser quality or something that just wasn't good enough for the silver screen but here this is quite the opposite. Compared to most straight to TV movies, this deserves to be released as a feature film because this is one of the better and most mature stories that Ghibli has every released. The film follows a student recounting his events from his senior year of high school and all the friendships and relationships he went through that year. Particularly with a girl who he has quite a conflict with for most of the film.

Tales of the Earthsea

Probably the most controversial film to be released from Studio Ghibli, as the film deviates from the original source material. Sometimes that can be a good thing for a film and sometimes it has a negative affect. Here it was the negative effect, but that doesn't change the fact that is a pretty entertaining movie. The only real problem is that it doesn't go all the way that could've made it into something special. That doesn't change the great animation and the potential this movie could've had. Check it out if you have seen every movie released from Ghibli and are still looking for one to watch.

The Cat Returns

You could call this movie, the sequel to the book that was written in Whisper of the Heart. It's a Spin off to that film where a few familiar characters from that movie show up. A girl saves a cat from being killed on the street but it turns out that he a prince from the world of cats. She gets invited to go stay there but soon realizes that if she doesn't leave by a certain point she will be stuck as a cat for the rest of her life. Its a light story with fun characters and a fun adventure.

Today is the last day of 2015 and this year had a solid number of great films over the course of the year that will be remembered as some of the best movie experience I had. There were however a number of films that really stood out to me this year, whether is be through being creative, bringing back something old and using it as new, or just being a great story in general. Creed

I was originally not that interested in this movie because it felt like a spin off just to cash in on Nostalgia like most summer blockbusters. It wasn't until i did research and found out the backstory on how this movie was made. It quickly became my most anticipated movie of the year and I even watched all the Rocky films leading up to this one. This movie handles Nostalgia and past character great and even tells its own story with familiarity to the original film.

When Marnie Was There

This just might very well be Studio Ghibli's last film and for the way they left off was a good one because this is one of the best movies every made by them. It take a mature story and theme and tells it in a great way. This is also one of the best looking animated movies I've ever seen. If you want to see a less fantastical Studio Ghibli film that legitimately tells a grounded story this is the one to check out!

Room

Brie Larson & Jacob Tremblay give the two best performances of the year playing a mother and son trapped in a room and how they face the world after leaving that room. It is an intense emotional experience that will definitely be the most memorable film of this past year. I hope that this movie will get recognized during Oscar season and receives the awards it deserves.

Mad Mad: Fury Road

The biggest surprise of the year! Mad Mad returns to the old style of film making and makes it feel new again. It takes a very simple story and makes it fun and about the journey, while at the same time reviving an older franchise that you would least expect it from. This is a great action film with some of the best looking action scenes that I can remember. If you haven't seen Mad Max...Why haven't You?

The Last: Naruto the Movie

The first movie I've ever seen that felt like it was made just for me. With ten years of build up to something I thought I would never get to see in this story. Being by far the best Naruto film that I have seen so far, with a very well done romance and great action that includes all the characters that I come to know and like over the years of watching this show. This is a great end to a character youth and leads in perfect for where the character will next.

I am always looking for something new to watch especially in genres and mediums that I haven't dived much into. MOVIES EVERY YEAR

Having one Star Wars film a year sounds like a dream come true and something that fans would never have thought would ever live to see the day. Now that Disney owns Star Wars the Marvel formula has been put upon the franchise in a sense that we will be getting at least one Star Wars movie a year, with the possibility of more in the future. There is a lot to explore in the large universe that has been created and the best thing this franchise needs is expansion.

EVERYTHING IS CANON

This can go either way for you while those who really enjoyed the old EU, which is now called Legends, they were officially labeled as no longer being canon to the Star Wars universe. While they never were officially canon to begin with, it was a nice way for you to connect them with the movies. Now under the new canon there have already been a few book, comics, and even upcoming things in the works that will be heading our way in the future. There are probably a large group of fans who aren't bothered by this change nor care about anything that isn't the movies. I've seen good points made that no one should tell anyone what is canon or not canon and that the stories should be enjoyed anyway, which is a good way to look at things.

Even though a lot of those old stories are not longer connected with the movies doesn't change the fact that they are good stories and that also doesn't change them not showing up in the movies or the new canon at all. My worry is that one day this canon will start to contradict each other or even add things that shouldn't be added to the stories. Primarily towards the movies and adding events in between those movies that end up not being mention in the films at all.

OVER SATURATION

Probably the biggest concern for most fans out there, Saturation is the point where people start to get tired of something or are never given a break for anticipation to build. This is something that has only just recent begun to hit superhero movies and we've haven't even hit the point at its most saturated. Back to what I was saying before with there being Star Wars films every year, this is something that will greatly contribute to this and even with canon. It is all about how creative and how many risks they take going forward. Playing it safe will only get you so far before you have to try something new and change up the formula. If they do this with Star Wars, I can see it lasting for a long time.

The Rebellion

We know that there are different factions of the rebellion across the galaxy and the ones we do see mostly through the original trilogy is just one of them. It's not until Return of the Jedi where we do see the rebellion come together with all the different ships and factions to take on the Empire one last time.

Death Star?

Rogue One is coming out next year, and the movie will take place before A New Hope and will focus on how the Rebels stole the Death Star plans from the Empire. How will this connect with Rebels? Well we know that our group have been messing with the Empire for quite a while and by the time the events of Rogue One happen it would have been four years after the star of Rebels.

The rebellion, at the time it is now airing on Rebels is still in its early stages. You can see different factions coming together, but they are no where near the efficiency to start doing covert missions against the Empire.
We are also far off from big battle or wars happening between the rebellion and the empire but until that I can see more interactions with the empire.

In the context of the prequels, we actually get to see the development of the Death Star or at least seeing it in production. Because making a Death Star planet that size is going to take a long time to make so it would be cool to see it before it is finished in some form.

They Won't

There is still that possibility that the series won't connect to the original trilogy, well at least not directly to it. We have already seen cameos from C-3PO and R2-D2 and some of the other characters that become relevant to the rebellion later on. But there is always a possibility that our group of characters will not become involved in the events of A New Hope, whether they are killed off or just travel to a different faction or become their own sorta ghost faction of the rebellion. Secret from everyone else, which could be cool and could keep the show going for a long time.
