Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) Movie Review

PG-13  |

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller

Director: Wes Ball
Writer: T.S. Nowlin

Star: Dylan O'Brien, Ki Hong Lee, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Plot:  After having escaped the Maze, the Gladers now face a new set of challenges on the open roads of a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles.

This is the second film in the Maze Runner Saga and we follow the same characters as the last film as they try and locate the organization known as WCKD which brings them to the Scorch where they continue to face challenges and continues the story of this franchise.

I think that this series just doesn't seperate itself from all the other book to movie film these day or even try to make an attempt at being different.

All the cast and characters are interesting but they just aren't used that well with a script that isn't that great to begin with. I did like the antagonist of the movie that was pretty interesting for the most part.

The biggest stand out of this film is the action set pieces in the film, they are actually shot and well done. There are plenty of visuals that does make all the scenes looks great and the world more interesting. Mostly the elements from the outside. Even at one point becoming a zombie movie. It feels like there could be more interesting mythology to this world, they just haven't reached that point in the story to really use all that.

I think the people who haven't read the books to the series will enjoy the movie because this does deviate a bit from the book. But for me its just doesn't do anything to really stand out be memorable from all the other franchises in the genre. Not changing that fact the movie is entertain and not bad for a matinee at the movies.
