You don't see a lot of survival focused films these day, that last one I can remember is The Grey starting Liam Neeson. Taking place on Mount Everest this is a film that is meant to be experienced in a theater.

This movie really starts when a storm hits and these teams of climbers have to work together not only to climb but to keep each other alive. They find cleaver ways to keep the pacing going while also teaching you the skills to climb a mountain and everything that goes into it. I did wish it was a bit shorter, but I think the overall pacing makes up for it.

This is a movie to see if you are looking for a film to see in IMAX. It adds to the experience of the film especially at the spectacle this movie is in. Everest has a great cast assembled and there is a lot to see visually but other than the experience there isn't much else there.
