Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 2 The Holocrons Of Fate Review

Darth Maul is back and he has taken control of the ghost!

The episode starts off as Kanan and Ezra get a distress signal from Hera who tells them that the ship has been captured. The person who not only took over the ship but has captured the rest of crew is Darth Maul. He wants the two holocrons from Kanon one that is the jedi holocron Kanan has secretly kept and the other the sith holocron from Malachor.

Kanan and Ezra need to work together to retrieve the sith holocron that Kanan had given away. They learn to put what was holding them back before aside and retrieve the holocron together. Meanwhile Hera and the rest of the crew try to out smart Maul by taking back the ship from him. Maul meets with both Kanan and Ezra and attempts to eliminate Kanan while continuing to make Ezra his apprentice. It doesn't work completely as Kanan uses the force to bring save himself.

Ezra and Maul combine the two holocrons in order to see what happens when the two meet together. Kanan tries the save Ezra by having him look away from the holocron as he is the only one who is able to see what is inside. Darth Maul does find out what he wants as he escapes and lives to see another day. I do think that who he saw in the holocron was Obi-Wan as he seemed to be happy that someone is alive.

I thought the episode wasn't bad but I wish the stakes were a bit higher, I think that if Darth Maul was more of a threat to the group everything would've been more tense. I was curious to see if what was in the holocrons were explained a bit more, not needing to know everything but just a bit more bits of information would have been nice. This is definitely not the end for Maul and I think I know where they are taking this character. If I am correct then we should be seeing Obi-Wan Kenobi soon!
