CREED MOVIE REVIEW

Creed if finally out on Blu-Ray!

The film follows Adonis Johnson who is son of famous boxer Apollo Creed, he doesn't like to be in the shadow of his father as he tries to make a name for himself. He finds Rocky Balboa who runs a restaurant now and the life of a boxer is way past his time. Most of his friends and family have passed away and even his son has moved away. Adonis shows up and tries to convince Rocky to train his as he want to train and become a boxer like his father, but making a name of his own and not in his fathers shadow. Rocky agrees and the two begin form a bond as he becomes his trainer to become a successful boxer. At the same time both facing problems in their own life from relationships to health problems.

What I really liked about the visuals in this movies was the way all the fight scenes were shot. A lot of the boxing matches in the movie are done in one take and are very close up and to give them a claustrophobic feel to them. The cinematographer has a documentary background so that would explain the very gritty and in depth feel this movie has. It looks great on Blu-Ray and I am looking forward to the 4K Blu-Ray I would assume this film will have later on. The movie has a 7.1 lossless soundtrack, and for the boxing matches, they are used well. You really get the sense of space because of the use of the audience during these matches and the way the sound mixing is utilized. On the technical side this was solid all the way around.

The special features are decent and pretty standard with interviews of Stallone, Jordan and Coogler as they talk about Rocky's history and transitioning the story the this film. Another is a short about Jordan's transformation for the role. There are some deleted scenes that are interesting but easily understandable on why they were cut from the final film.

Creed is a great movie and you should pick it up on Blu-Ray and definitely look out for a 4K version release as well!
