Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004) Movie Review
TV-14 | 113 min
Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure
Director: Tensai Okamura
Writer: Katsuyuki Sumisawa
Plot: Naruto and his team are sent on a mission to guard Yukie Fujikaze, a popular actress, who is in the middle of filming her next film in the Land of Snow.
Naruto the Movie feels like a group of episodes put together to form a movie. Its not that that is a bad thing or all it just doesn't feel as grander as it could've been.
The Movie starts off with Team 7, comprised of Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke watching a film starring Yukie Fujikaze. They end up getting kicked of the movie because of Naruto being loud but shortly after they actually run into Yukie Fujikaze who happens to be chased off by mean on horses. They end up chasing here only to find out that the people chasing her are the ones hiring them on their latest mission.
They need to protect Yukie Fujikaze as the next film their making is going to be taking place in the Land of Snow. It is going to be dangergous so they have Team 7 protect her during the shoot. They are quite a few conflicts right of the bat mostly due to the fact that Yukie doesn't want to go to the Land of Snow at all and tries to run away and quite acting so she can't go back.
That is how the movie pretty much starts off and while I did like how it set up and for being much different and pretty vague on the mission it self which lead to there being some mystery on what will happen I do wish the movie followed through with being a bit different especially with it being a movie and not an episode of the show. But this is Naruto and what the movie shows is Naruto and a lot of action, which is a big part of the show.
Now what is impressive in this movie is the action scenes, there are a lot but thats kinda what you want out of a Naruto Movie. There big and explosive which compared to the show is great. Seeing it animated much better than the show is nice to see and its even very well choreographed you can see everything that going on including the fast hand movements they do to quickly escape a situation.
One of the weaker parts of the film is the villain, its the very typical villain who want to take over a certain land of kingdom. Thats pretty much all there is to him. We are told sorta a back story on how he actually took over the Land of Snow but that about it. He serves his purpose and it is nice to see him taken down by the end of movie.
I would've like to have seen more of the fights focus on as a team. Especially in the fights, it ends up just being Naruto or Kakashi who really get to shin and its even noticeable on how weak Sasuke comes off in this movie. Which isn't the case in the show. I just would've like to have seen every contribute to the fight and see them work as a team.
Overall Naruto the Movie is pretty decent and its short enough that I wouldn't mind rewatching it in the future. If your a fan of Naruto you probably have already seen this movie and if you haven't seen Naruto its not a bad way to get introduced to the character and the world.
