The Walk (2015) Movie Review

PG  |  123 min

Genre: Adventure, Biography, Drama

DirectorRobert Zemeckis
Writers:  Robert Zemeckis & Christopher Browne

Stars:  Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon, Guillaume Baillargeon

Plot: In 1974, high-wire artist Philippe Petit recruits a team of people to help him realize his dream: to walk the the immense void between the World Trade Center towers.

This is mix of an origin story as well as what the even was that made this man remembered. There is a lot of build up to this scene throughout the film by trying to make us understand what his motivation is for wanting to do this in the first place. The first half is a bit slow but I like how it slowly picks up pace as the story progresses.

Throughout the entire film there are a number of sequences that seamlessly used CGI very well that made the scenes more visual pleasing. Normally that isn't the case where CGI can become very noticeable and take you out of the movie but here is done very well.

I think that some of the things that took me out of the movie was the large amount of a make up used on the actors to make them fit the real like people who actually did this, it just did blend all that well. It also doesn't help that the accents especially from Joseph Gordon Levitt does quite reach to some of the others who actually have a french accent.

The reason to see this movie is for the last 30 minutes. That is really what the movie was made for and the reason to see it in the first place. The sequence in which he walks on the wire across the two skyscrapers is  very well shot. So well shot to the point that many people can get vertigo just by watching this scene.

The Walk is an overall entertaining flick. So if you have a chance to see this in IMAX its definitely worth checking out.
