Terror In Renonsance TV Review
This is the latest show from Shinichirô Watanabe with the music score once again being done by Yoko Kanno but unlike all the other shows from them, This felt the most unique and possible the best use of music from a show in a long time. Unlike previous shows like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo which used for the most part well known genres of music, this one was different almost creating its own unique style of sound. It also helps to know that Yoko Kanno herself went out of her way to create the score for the show in Ireland, as a way for inspiration. Watanabe always has a great use of music in his show and this one is no different.
We start the show follow these two kids named Nine and Twelve, they meet a girl named Lisa as they start at a new school for one day. Only to plan a bombing that will occur at a school trip, but during the day of the event they end up protecting Lisa by tricking her intro become an accomplice with them. We then follow as we see these characters set up their next attack at the same time focusing on a police officer who is investigating them.
I really enjoyed watching this show, it felt smarter than your average anime show and had tons of mystery and trill along the way. It even at points reminded of The Dark Knight with how sophisticated it gets, you can tell it was an influence for this show.
The is short, making every episode fast paced and interesting to watch, we are always guessing where out characters are going next and how the events will play out.
The show does take a bit of a turn for the second half with kind of a rough transition with the introduction of the character Five. She is presented as more of an equal antagonist to the characters to create an add challenge for them. It is interesting how she challenges them even taking their own tactics and attacks and framing them for it but we know exactly what she is after nor anything else from her. Its fine to have mystery but we just didn't enough time to get an any sort of impact from her.
I think the one thing from preventing this show from being fantastic was that it only had 11 episodes to tell its story. If it was had around 22 to 26 episode that would've been plenty of time to give everyone character arcs as well as development. Even making the story for fleshed out and more interesting.
Just because it doesn't reach its own full potential doesn't change that fact that this is a great solid show. Its a fun ride and does lead to a pretty satisfying finale and conclusion to the show.
