I've been a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise from just about beginning, and though many people didn't jump on board until Fast Five, I had still enjoyed just about all the films up to them. When Fast & Furious 6 came around the series was definitely going towards a more action oriented style with less cars involved than before.
Furious 7 was sorta a disapointed to me, though was I wasn't to suprised from it, from the new director to the death of Paul Walker. The fact that they were able to put together a decent action flick is an achievment. But the problems I have with movie aren't so much in the story. Most of them come from the technical side of things such as the editing, camera work, and overall style of the movie that just felt kinda off than the previous movies.
The entire movie was cut in a way that it very fast past, which is good and worked well with Fast Five and some of the others, but the difference here is that it was almost to fast, to the point where I couldn't even get into the movie. From the shaky fights (which there are a lot of), and the transitions from different locations (which there are a lot of), It was hard to know what was going on at any moment.
As for the story side of things, some what of a pass can be given. Because Furious 7 almost feels like it doesn't even have a script at times, with all the things going on, nothing it ever really cohesive. It mostly feels like a collection of action scenes put together. At times it does seem to have focus, but its hard to tell what was actually the focus or just the rewrite they had to make to change the film.
Furious 7 just wasn't as enjoyable with the rest of the series. It felt disconnected which you can't really blame on the story side of things, but on the technical side, it just didn't hold up. The ending was a well send off to Paul Walker and Brian O' Conner but I'm not sure if I can get excited to see where everything goes next for all the other characters.
